The Power of Inner Peace During Times of Crisis

The past few months have been challenging for us all with tragedies, smoke, hurricanes, illness, etc.... In times of crisis stress levels run high; fear, frustration, and anger take over, and peace seems impossible, even inappropriate. “How can you think of peace at a time like this?” By learning how to create peace in your body during a rough patch of life, you can allow healing and solutions to come in. In a state of surrender to “what is” lies your opportunity to grow and embrace your inner super powers. Surrendering beyond the concept of acceptance of “God’s will “or  “it was meant to be.” You are empowering yourself to be part of the solution when you stop feeding the emotions of the problem.

“Tragedy stays alive by feeling what's been done to us,

while peace comes alive by living with the results.” Mark Nepo

A Good Night’s Sleep to Improve your Health

A Good Night’s Sleep to Improve your Health

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported last year that more than a third of Americans don’t get enough sleep. Many health issues like depression, autoimmune disorders, and memory issues have been linked to insufficient sleep. Harvard medical researchers have also linked sleep deprivation with obesity, high blood pressure and daytime fatigue. Most of us have experienced not sleeping well on occasion. Stress, worry, staying up too late, eating late, a bad mattress, are all things that can be contributing factors. Not getting enough sleep over an extended period of time can be detrimental to your health.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society recommend that adults aged 18–60 years sleep 7 to 8 hours each night to maintain optimal health and well-being. For those over 60, studies have shown that they may need 1 hour less. Professor of Sleep and Physiology and...

Practicing Quiet Time for Health & Happiness

Uncategorized Aug 27, 2017

It’s summer. Guests are coming. Trips are being planned. August brings a haste to get it all done before it’s too late. The first thing we compromise is our self-care routines because we are too busy. We often come to the end of summer with high levels of stress, which can cause so many health problems. Studies show that our ability to maintain a state of happiness is directly linked to how much time we invest in our inner well-being. They all show that quiet time and meditation are crucial ingredients to a lasting state of health and happiness. The misconception that meditation is just about “shutting off” the mind makes most people think that they can’t do it. Let’s talk about it as developing your ability to meet yourself by creating moments of presence and quality “Me” time. You can think of it as practicing redirecting your thoughts toward what you want to experience and clear out what you don’t by clearing thoughts that are...

A Self-Healing Alternative to Worry

Uncategorized May 01, 2017

 A Self-Healing Alternative to Worry.

If you hold a pencil in your hand for a few minutes, it will not have much of an impact on your arm. If you hold it for hours… your hand, your wrist, and your shoulder start to hurt and over time this little pencil feels like heavy concrete and can cause your body severe pain and injury. There is one simple solution to ease or prevent the injury: Put it down! It’s the same when you hold your negative thoughts and worries about life's problems in your mind for a prolonged period of time. It not only contributes nothing to a solution but over time it can cause serious health problems. The same solution for preventing the ill effects applies: Stop it!  When we worry about our loved ones we are sending them an energy that contributes to their hardship and activates the harmful stress hormone in our body - nobody wins.

As a mother I know it’s hard not to worry, especially about our children. I think the most difficult...

Embody the Change

Uncategorized Feb 04, 2017

It's time for you to "Get Real" about being part of the healing solution in your life. We can all complain about what is wrong and though this awareness is an important part of change, we need to take actions that can move us towards healing. What are you contributing to the solution in your life, in your body? We spend so much energy looking for the “diagnosis” that sometimes we forget we can start being part of the healing solution now by stopping doing what we have always done and expect different results. The old structures that defined you in the past no longer fit or feel authentic because you are being called into a whole new experience of knowing who YOU are - and why you are here!

If you can accept that the solution for you is not going back to what was but forward towards being the full expression of the gift of you, you are part of the solution. As you practice aligning your intentions with your higher good and the higher good of all, you can...

Peace Within = Peace On Earth

Uncategorized Dec 01, 2016

The holidays are always a busy, stressful time, but this year we have the added political discourse between friends and family. This can make it challenging to remember “good will to all.” As we reach the end of the year, we are facing a new world full of uncertainty. The media and Facebook posts are constantly putting out information that triggers fear, creates anxiety and can cause reactive, angry behaviors. Investing our energy supporting the frustration and the fears can cause us to forget the message that all the holidays bring: Light and Peace. Peace on Earth will never be possible if we don’t make time to cultivate inner peace. If you don’t go within, you go without.

Regardless of your position on the recent political outcome, we all need to look up from our lives and embrace this healing opportunity. Blame only brings us into a low vibration of victimhood, making us powerless and creates more of what we don’t want. Our reality is simply a...

Surrender: the Bridge to Transformation.

Surrender: the Bridge to Transformation.

In life, the idea of surrender comes up usually when we meet an intolerable level of frustration and reach the end of our rope. It is a word that in our Western minds are often experienced as a failure and giving up on. The dictionaries say: “giving yourself up into the power of another” or “to cease resistance to an enemy or opponent and submit to their authority.“  Yikes! Giving up power to another? It doesn’t sound empowering. No wonder we meet this idea with resistance. The ego mind sees it as a failure.  No one hates to lose or give up power more than the ego mind.

In many spiritual teachings, surrender has a more philosophical meaning.  The practice of surrendering to the Divine is referred to in yoga as Ishvara Pranidhana. It calls us to embrace our partnership with Source Energy, Father-Mother God of your understanding. This is one of the keys for us to experience lasting peace and...

Being Human – Getting Real

Uncategorized Oct 05, 2016

Who do you think you are? Not who do you think you should be or you were, or what others want you or expect you to be. From a very young age who you are is defined by your parents, your siblings, and relatives, then expand through your relationships, what you do, your jobs, accomplishments, etc., all of which focuses on external “doings” and is mostly based on who you are to other people. Sometimes challenges, addictions, illness or a recovery can take over in defining who we are (which can sometimes create an attachment to the problem(s).

Of course, all these things are part of who you are but sooner or later, external things in your life that you rely on to define you will change. Relationships, jobs, titles, all have their time. The best relationships allow for growth: some will blossom, some will wither. Your physical appearance, your health, your parents, children, grandchildren or nieces, nephews, friends, lovers, jobs will all change...

From Wishful Wanting to Manifesting

Uncategorized Sep 07, 2016

May greets us with many planets in retrograde (Jupiter until 5/9; Mercury until 5/22; Mars until 6/29). This continues to be a time to not be in a rush to “get things done.” Alleviate frustration by practicing mindfulness, patience and making time to breathe consciously. This can also help with the energetic opportunity upon us right now to go beyond “wishful wanting” and dig deeper into the inner garden of our heart to feel what we truly desire to have in our life and get serious about manifesting it.

If you want to catch a 9:00am train to get somewhere important, you need to get up early enough to get there on time to catch it. Buying a ticket will not get you to the train station on time. Often in life we have opportunities to achieve something we say we want and good intentions to create it, but resistance causes us to “miss” the timing. We can justify it by saying, “Oh well I guess I wasn’t meant to be on that train!” Have...

A Message from the Universe

A Message from the Universe

At the beginning of the year, I wrote this would be a year for transformation and change. Like it or not, things are changing all around us. It’s becoming harder and harder to ignore what is not working in our lives and our world. This continues to be a year to “Re” everything: rethink, redo, recommit, reevaluate, reconnect, replenish, reorganize, reflect, relax, remember, and mostly release the old thoughts that are not supporting us to create our best LIFE.

This is a time in our evolution to step into our grace and into the driver’s seat of our LIVES in a more empowered way.

The world is experiencing so much uncertainty and upheaval, stirring up fear within and around us, which can cause higher levels of stress and powerlessness. You can reclaim your power by not resisting change. What you resist only persists. Instead ask: “What is the healing opportunity for me here?”  Then be proactive, take actions to...
